  1. Hi there, just wondering if Korfball is suitable for manual wheelchair users also? My son is 9 and interested in trying out some new sports. Thanks

  2. That’s a really good question, but one that I’m not sure how to answer… I see no reason why it shouldn’t be suitable, and/or adaptable. I have heard of two attempts to play competitive wheelchair korfball in the UK, and thought about it myself a couple of times. But maybe we don’t need it to be competitive at this stage – why not just come along to one of our training sessions and have a go – I am sure that we can adapt some games to suit, and will welcome any suggestions on how to take the idea further. The posts we use for the children’s sessions are all adjustable, so we can set the height of the basket to suit. The youth sessions run from 5:30 to 6:30 at the Ardler Complex, and if access is a problem we can open up some fire doors that run straight into the sports hall – call me on 07817 640432 if there’s anything else that might pose problems. Cheers… Nigel Cooper (coach)

  3. Indoor korfball is adaptable for wheelchair users. However, it’s hard to play competition with “regular” players. Maybe EKA would allow you to have a second lower korf for a wheelchairplayer in court?

    • Thanks for this Patrick… W’s 9-year old son has been along to quite a few sessions this year and seemed to enjoy training (e.g. shooting drills) as well as playing in the (recreational) korfball games that we end each session with. We managed to adapt the rules a bit (including adding a lower korf: so 3 korfs in total on the pitch) to make the game more inclusive for players of widely differing abilities, but we could certainly do with more tips. Anyone with any useful ideas is welcome to mail them to me at nigel@korfball.org.uk

      • Hi David – yes, everyone is welcome to play. If we need to adapt the rules a bit to make it fairer and more fun for you, just let us know what’s best for you.

  4. I have never done this sport before. Am a 53year old female and do other sports but keen to try a club sport. Is it a case of just turning up? No keen on making a fool of myself!!

    • Hi Rebecca – yup, it’s a “just turn up” club, and we do the best that we can to make everyone feel welcome. Please do come along and have a go. The “family friendly” Thursday sessions at Ardler are definitely the best place to start, and all you need is some indoor trainers (and a good sense of humour). Most people also bring along a bottle of water for the breaks. Fiona Iannetta is our new Development Secretary, so she may try out her new buddying system on you if that would help – and if it won’t help, we won’t let her. šŸ™‚ Look forward to meeting you soon, Nigel (aged 53 and a half…)
